It is a north-eastern district of West Bengal. Darjeeling is listed in most of the travelers’ diary because of some awesome things which makes it stand apart from other tourist spots.

How to reach Darjeeling?

Darjeeling is connected by road to Siliguri which is the gateway of Northern-East India. It is well connected through rail, air, and the road to the rest of India.

By Rail – The New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is at a distance of 88kms. Darjeeling Passenger, the World Heritage Toy Train 52541 departs from here at 9:00 am to Darjeeling Station. This is the single train which connects Darjeeling to Siliguri by train.

By Air – Bagdogra Airport, the nearest airport to Darjeeling is at a distance of 94kms.

By Road – There are many buses run by NBSTC available. Private buses, rented jeeps and cars are easily available from Siliguri Junction.

Batasia Loop & War Memorial:


A railway loop is at a 5 km distance from the town of Darjeeling town. It is a great example of architectural finesse and beauty, designed and given form by seasoned British engineers. The loop winds through a curvy pathway, circling the memorial pillar and offer astounding 360 degree views of the Kanchenjunga mastiff. A lovely Eco Garden with flowers is around the railway track where the local Gorkha dresses are available for rent. This is a new thing to try for all to makeover for a moment and keep it forever.

War Memorial is a statue of an armed soldier which has been created in the center of this garden to honor the Gorkha soldiers who fought for the independence of the country.

 The Toy-Train of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR):


No one should miss the fun ride in Toy-Train of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR). It is a World Heritage site honored by UNESCO (1999). The 82 kilometer ride is roughly 6-7 hour long which gives a huge time to capture the flawless beauty of nature. The train passes through the forests, waterfalls, over deep valleys, the mountains and tunnels. There are daily 2-hour joy rides available from Darjeeling Railway Station. It’s a round trip from Darjeeling-Ghoom.

Darjeeling Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) & Museum:


It is the oldest mountaineering museum in India which is located on the West Jawahar Road in Darjeeling. It contains a museum of mountaineering gears and instruments and the specimens of Himalayan flora & fauna. It also provides a vivid knowledge of the Himalayan range, its peaks and their position in worldwide and the local culture, their habitats, etc. HMI runs courses for mountaineering. The record of attempts to conquer Mt. Everest has been precisely maintained here. The renowned Sherpa Tenzing Norgay was the Director of this institute for a long time and he was cremated near the Institute (1986).

Zoological Park:


Zoological Park, situated 2kms apart from the main town of Darjeeling is fully named as Padmaja Naidu Zoological Park established in 1958.  It consists of an area of 67.5 acres at approx 7,000 ft (2133m) altitudes. It has the widest collection of high altitude birds and animals of endangered species in Himalayas. Animals like Himalayan Black Bear, Red Panda, Snow Yaks, Tibetan Wolf, Snow Leopard and Birds like Great Grey Birds, and lot more. This is the single zoo in India where the Siberian Tigers are kept. In Nov 2014, this zoo has announced to be one of the best zoos in the world.



This is an adventurous attraction in Darjeeling situated at the bank of Ramman river. The wide view which is over the green tea garden, ice cherished mountains and a lovely view of Rangeet valley are some of the best sights to witness from inside the ropeway cabin. This ride covers a distance of 8kms in more or less 45 minutes.

Rock Garden & Ganga Maya Park:


Rock Garden, a park which is made by cutting rocks differently for the creation of different levels of steeps for tourist attraction located 10kms below the Darjeeling Valley. The roads have very sharp bends. The wonderful waterfall comes from the top of the rocks giving tourists an actual view of a hill region.

Ganga Maya, another park, located more downwards approx 3kms which are surrounded by hills and a natural stream. It is newly created to draw the tourist’s attention. Beautiful small bridges are built over the stream for enjoying the view of crystal clear water which flow over the rocky bed. There is a small lake where tourist enjoys boating on paddle boats.

The Tea Gardens:


Darjeeling is actually positioned in the lap of the soft green tea gardens & snowy mountains. It does not only give the mind a refreshing scenario but also presents unmatched tranquil.
